Hostgroup Hierarchy

In Hostgroup Hierarchy, you see all the hostgroups configured in a hierarchical fashion. At the very top can be your company name, and then you can split it down based on any structure you want.

In our example, we split it based on Production or Development and 3rd party systems.

From these screens, you can then drill down to see more detail of the hostgroup, such as the hosts or the services. So at the top level, you get a summary of the status of every single host and service configured in Opsview.

We also have two columns: Handled and Unhandled. All hosts that are not OK and have not been acknowledged or in scheduled downtime are put into the unhandled column, whereas everything else is in the handled column. This makes it very easy for a user to see what is being affected on their network at any one time.

To configure Hostgroup Hierarchy, we draw enclosing boxes to show which hostgroups belong within others. You just drag and drop to move the boxes around.

We think this is a great view to know immediately what needs attention right away.
