Opsview provides full SNMP support via agent polling and trap processing. Supported SNMP versions are 1, 2c and 3.

Active polling of devices

Opsview is capable of monitoring any SNMP MIB-II compliant device. Extended support is provided for all common network devices and operating systems.

Two methods of SNMP polling are provided. The first uses the wide variety of Nagios plugins available. The second method is via a MIB browser, allowing numeric and string comparisons against specific OID values.

SNMP trap processing

Opsview is capable of processing SNMP v1 traps and SNMP v2 / v3 notifications. Opsview manager is used to define what action should be take when a trap is received from a device. An event queue is used to assist management of traps.

Opsview automates the task of managing and loading MIBs which can otherwise be a significant burden on IT staff.
